Born out of reverence for their favorite bands, Philadelphia's A Country Western finds themselves at the knotty crossroads of modern alternative subgenres. Multi-instrumentalists Derek Hengemihle and Garrett Miades began making songs together in middle school and formed A Country Western in 2017. Members Erik Hilbert and Paris Parker joined for live performances in 2021. Their latest record, Life on the Lawn (2024, Crafted Sounds), showcases their evolution with louder guitars, playful feedback, and centered vocals. Thematic explorations include environmental destruction, capitalism, and navigating a hyper-digital society.
